It was quite a nice experience to be able to take up EIR as my CDS as I have learnt a great deal of techniques on how to research effectively using search engines and this has helped me on my projects too. It has made me realized how easy it is to find the information that you want without having to go through a list of websites that are redundant.

Through my research topic, I have learnt that the effects of AIDS/HIV has a great impact on youths as they are still young and might not have the abilities to cope with the stress. This would strain them mentally and physically. Also, some of the youths are victims due to the outspread and these innocent youths have lost their freedom because of such a disease.

The metaphor which I would like to use to describe this learning journey is- a ride on the rollercoaster. EIR lessons were fun as Ms Faridah is a teacher who makes lessons enjoyable. However, doing the report requires lots of effort so as to achieve the desired grade.

Although I have to admit that EIR would be more fun if I have my close friends with me, I have also made a few friends that were not from my course through this CDS. As they have also helped me to clear my doubts along the way.

Thanks for the memorable lessons.

My Dream Holiday

My Dream Holiday is a trip back to Australia.

Gold Coast

The last time i went there was 8years ago when i was still in Primary 2. My parents brought me and my brother together with my aunt's family and we traveled around Australia on our own without any tour guides.

The trip was definitely enjoyable as we were able to go around free and easy without any time limitations and the parents brought us to the streets market in the morning and had an artist to draw our faces and climbing up the Bald Rock.

The most memorable part of the trip is when we walked to the nearby sea late at night and the waves was strong, it literally sent us "flying" back to the shore.

We also stayed in different kinds of apartments and the feeling is definitely very different from Singapore. It was relaxing and peaceful unlike the busy life in Singapore.

Hence, if i had the chance, i would definitely visit Australia again.

However, since im am not financially capable yet, I would want to travel to Thailand with my friends for now.

a. Do you think it is more effective to search the invisible web (databases) than using search engines, meta-search or subject dictionaries? Why?

Personally, i feel that both invisible web (databases) and the three other research facilities serves different purposes. It benefits us in a different in which, different kinds of topics can be found very different places depending on your own research topic.

For example, if you want to find an information which requires professional explanations about certain things, using the invisible web databases is a good option. On the other hand, if you are trying to find the same topic but together with other supporting information, using the three other types of research facilities would be more suitable.

Hence, it is difficult to judge which is more effective.

b. Will you use the invisible web (databases) for research in your own respective Diplomas? Why?

I will definitely use the invisible web database for research for my own projects in the future since EIR has introduced to me another way to research much more effectively.

c. What have you learnt from your wiki experience during this practical?

Through the EIR-RAWKZ wiki website, i am able to learn about different topics that have been put together by students of EIR and as the website allows students to "easy-edit" the contents, this can help to improve the information provided by the other students. Thus, the quality of work is definitely good.

Through this practical, i have learnt how to research on the information that I want more effectively and efficiently using keyword variations such as 'AND' and 'OR' etc. This has helped me to finish my research much quickly compared to how I had research in the past.

a. Were you impressed by Google's search functions/features? Why?

I am impressed by Google's search functions/features as doing research is a must in every projects, especially in poly and by having such functions/features, it helps us to get the materials that we need for our research easily and quickly. Before attending EIR lessons, i did not realized about such a feature/function.

b. How do you feel about participation in discussion forums? Is it helpful for your research? Do you feel anxious about talking to others you do not know?

I feel that it is useful to participate in discussion forums as you are able to get hold of knowledge which you might not know and this can definitely help us in our projects without a doubt. I do not feel anxious since it is not a face to face discussion.

c. why must you do citation and bibliography?

It is important to do citation and bibliography as it is inappropriate to copy other people's work without giving them the proper acknowledgement. This is something which the school emphasize alot about plagiarism. You wouldnt like people to copy your work too right?

Air Jordan shoes - about $100

Well this is more of a need than want since my basketball shoes soles are wearing off. But it's beautiful! It's suitable for girls since many shoes have been designed for guys and it is hard to find a pair of shoes that is not too bulky or manly. Cool?

iTouch - $398

Do I still have to explain about this product? haha. Those who dont know about this HOT thing is seriously living in the 20th century! However, the main reason why I would want an iTouch is because of it's large screen and awesome applications.

Total amount used: $498!!

I've still got $2 left to get myself a drink after the "tedious" e-shopping spree!
if only this $500 thing is real hahahhaa!

Hello fellow EIR classmates.

I'm Yap Fang Yin and the course that i'm currently taking is Financial Business Informatics(FBI). I like playing Basketball and that's my CCA too. My interest is irritating and entertaining my friends, and somehow, they love it too.

I enjoy listening to music, and also tune in to 98.7FM to listen to the Muttons. It's like a habit before i sleep. Probably their jokes can make me laugh in my sleep.

The reason why I chose EIR as my CDS is because Taqinah (who took EIR as one of her CDS during DPA) recommended it to me and said it was fun and not so complicated unlike other CDS. And it's also my first choice, so i've got no complaints except the fact that there's only 5 girls out of so many guys.

It's weird to have so many of us blogging at the same time.

Anyway, is this post lengthy enough? Becos ive run out of things to blog already.

It's 4.05pm now! Time to go!!
